Calendar quarters divide the year into four fixed periods: Q1 runs from January 1 to March 31, Q2 from April 1 to June 30, Q3 from July 1 to September 30, and Q4 from October 1 to December 31. Enter a date to find its quarter, or choose a year and quarter to see exact dates and day counts. This is useful when checking reporting periods, planning work, or confirming which calendar quarter contains a date. Companies with a different fiscal-year start can use different quarter labels.

Frequently asked questions

Which quarter contains a date I enter?

The calculator assigns January through March to Q1, April through June to Q2, July through September to Q3, and October through December to Q4. The selected date does not change the quarter boundaries.

How does the calculator count days left in a quarter?

It counts calendar days after the selected date through the quarter's final day. The selected date is excluded and the final day is included. If you enter today's date, the calculator also shows today's quarter progress; for another date it shows days before and after that date.

What is the difference between calendar and fiscal quarters?

Calendar quarters always start in January, April, July, and October. A fiscal year can start in another month. For example, a company whose fiscal year starts on October 1 may call October through December its fiscal Q1, while those dates are calendar Q4. This calculator reports calendar quarters only; fiscal-year labels can also depend on whether an organization names the year after its start or end.

Does the calculator count working days?

No. It counts calendar days, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. It does not calculate business days or apply public-holiday calendars.

Why do calendar quarters have different numbers of days?

Each quarter contains three whole months, and months have different lengths. A calendar quarter has 90 to 92 days; Q1 has 90 days in a common year and 91 in a leap year, while Q2 has 91 and Q3 and Q4 have 92.

How does a leap year affect quarter dates?

February 29 adds one day to Q1 in a leap year. Q1 still runs from January 1 through March 31, and the dates and lengths of Q2, Q3, and Q4 stay the same.

Can I see quarter dates for any year?

Yes. Choose a year from 1 through 9999 and a quarter to see its exact start and end dates. The table then shows all four quarters for that year on this same URL.

Which time zone does today's progress use?

The calculator uses UTC to decide whether a selected date is today. Around midnight UTC, this can differ from your local calendar date.
